We strive to build a strong sense of community by providing opportunities for social connection and personal growth.

More Volunteering "on the run" opportunities

You really want to volunteer in your community BUT YOU DONT HAVE TIME?

Here's some easy ways to fit it in with your daily lifestyle -

  • Collect your empty eligible bottles and cans and DONATE them to us by nominating TWIN RIVERS LIONS CLUB INC when you drop off your collection to EITHER - Swan Reach Recreation Reserve (bin outside Twin Rivers Lions Shed at the top end of the driveway. (or if easier take to TAMBO WASTE RECYCLE SHED in Bairnsdale) or RING 0432 188 295 and ask us to pick up from your business/home (remember to give us your pickup address)
  • Postage stamps - worldwide used and new, first day covers and stamp collectors' auburns - Lions projects collect and sell at auction to raise funds towards CHILDREN'S MOBILITY here in Australia.
  • Unwanted Spectacles - all unwanted spectacle prescription and non -prescription. All donations of glasses for adults and children MUST BE IN GOOD CONDITION - we send these to a Queensland Lions Club who work with Women's Correction Centers where they are cleaned, graded and packed ready for distribution to underdeveloped countries in the Asia/Pacific region.
  • De-stash your overflowing craft / sewing room - we accept "as new" fabrics, bric-a-brac, wool, cotton thread (for overlockers and sewing machines) plus ANY OTHER CRAFT resources you or your family and friends no longer need.  We have a creative team of volunteers who love to turn these resources into quality gifts and homewares to sell for fundraising at the Community Book Exchange.

President Peter Payne's Review of 2025/26

Twin Rivers Lions complete another successful year. Based at the Swan Reach Recreation Reserve, Twin Rivers Lions Club members and volunteers have been busy over the past twelve months, engaged in a range of community service projects.

Patronage at the Club’s Community Book Exchange continues to grow, with over 3500 novels borrowed by locals over the year. Books donated by the public to the exchange also continues to grow, enabling the Club to donate some of these back to local charities.  Having the Exchange open on the third Sunday of the month oin addition to every Tuesday has proved successful, allowing those who cannot come on Tuesdays to attend the library. All are appreciative of the assistance provided by Club Members and appreciate the professional way the books are presented. The Club is also expanding deliveries of books to caravan parks, lifestyle villages and community health centres. A survey of users

A second Club service project operated by the Club is the pre-loved children’s book service, 123Read2Me. These Childrens books are collected from a number of charity services and from SchoolWorks, Bairnsdale. The books are then checked, graded and the covers sanitised, before being packed for delivery. The Club has almost completed the last deliveries for the year, delivering 7500 pre-loved children’s books to 55 Primary schools, pre-schools and day care centres across East Gippsland. Club President Peter Payne said that without the support of a number of local businesses and agencies, this service would not be possible.

A small group of ladies have been busy making over 800 Boomerang Bags and other items throughout the year. A record for the Club. Some have been sewn on Tuesdays while others are sewn at home. Bags and craft items are made from donated fabrics, some of which were destined for landfill. Craft items and bags are available for sale at our community shed in Swan Reach and will be available for purchase at the November 29th Christmas Art and Craft Market at the Johnsonville Hall.

“These projects are a remarkable achievement for such a small rural Lions Club, and we look forward to another successful 2026/2027 Lions year with the support our community partners” Peter said.
